An overview of the technology that has been developed especially for the Internet as a result of concerns raised, eg

    • The development of the PC as a medium for carrying music - a brief historical overview of the development of the PC and multimedia, and the technologies involved - sound files, DSP, sampling, music storage (hard disk, CD-ROM etc.) and other basics of digital audio.

    • Digital watermarking - The need for copyright protection on the Internet, and the technologies and companies involved in providing it. What are the benefits of digital watermarking and how will it save money and cheat music pirates?

    • Secure servers - Technology that allows music industries to sell their products via credit card transactions on the Internet. How does it work, what are the risks of buying on the Internet, and how are businesses overcoming the problem?

    • Other technologies - eg, software that allows musicians throughout the world to "jam" together, irrespective of their physical location (Rec Rocket's DRGN software), and multimedia developments by the major record labels (CD Extra, ConnecteD etc. both developed by Sony and available on their website).
